Barkhamsted Youth Baseball League
The Barkhamsted Youth Baseball League (BYBL) recently received a grant of $42,000 from the Douglas and Janet Roberts Fund through the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation.
This generous grant, along with support from the town of Barkhamsted, as well as donations from the community and the league’s fundraising efforts will be used to complete the construction of a new concession stand and restroom facilities at the Riverton Ballfields. This community-based project will enhance the experience for the players and families that utilize the fields for years to come. BYBL is planning a Grand Opening for the newly constructed building on Opening Day of the 2024 baseball and softball season.
BYBL provides youth baseball and softball for the children of Barkhamsted. The ballfields are located at 366 West River Road in Barkhamsted on land leased from Riverton's American Legion Post 159. The ballfields were built by volunteers. The operation of the league as well as the maintenance and upkeep of the ballfields have been maintained by volunteers for close to 40 years. Each year BYBL organizes teams for youth ages 5-15 in leagues ranging from T-ball, 60' baseball and softball, and 90' baseball. Youth are provided the opportunity to play during the Spring, Summer, and Fall. The ballfields in Riverton, managed by BYBL, are open for use by residents of the local community throughout the year.
